Stephanie (Steffi) Grebe (born September 24, 1987 in Berlin ) is a German table tennis player in the Paralympic starting class TT 6 . She is currently fourth in the world rankings.

Life

Grebe was born without hands and without a right lower leg and first grew up in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg . She attended the Ludwig-Meyn-Gymnasium in Uetersen , where she was a student mentor and later passed her Abitur. Then she completed an apprenticeship at the employment agency . She is currently studying social economics in Hamburg with a focus on labor law.

Athletic career

She began to learn to play table tennis at the age of twelve while on vacation in Greece. As a 13-year-old she trained with the table tennis club 3B Berlin and at the same time in disabled sports and competed in German championships. After the student moved to Heidgraben , Grebe played in the first women's team in the state league at Moorreger SV. In disabled sports, she first started for the BSG Neumünster and later for the VSG Gelsenkirchen. Grebe currently plays for SV Siek.

Stephanie Grebe is right-handed and a shakehand / offensive player . When playing, she uses a special prosthetic arm with a table tennis bat . Her forehand rubber is a GEWO Stratos, for the backhand she uses a Butterfly Feint Long rubber.

She was a participant in the Summer Paralympics 2012 in London , as the only German participant, and in the Summer Paralympics 2016 in Rio de Janeiro . In 2012 at the Summer Paralympics in London she finished fourth in the battle for bronze against Yuliya Klymenko, while in 2016 she won the silver medal in the final against Sandra Paovic (Croatia) at the Summer Paralympics in Rio .

For winning this silver medal, she received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Gauck on November 1, 2016.

Grebe also earned a double-digit number of gold and silver medals in top-class competitions in her career. She is currently fourth in the world rankings among table tennis players in TT 6, behind Russian Raisa Chebanika , Ukrainians Yuliya Klymenko and Antonina Khodzynska .

Honor

On March 24, 2014, Stephanie Grebe was awarded the sports badge of the state of Schleswig-Holstein for her services to sport .
