The Sterzelbach is an almost six and a half kilometer long right and northeast tributary of the Main in the Lower Franconian district of Haßberge .

geography

course

The Sterzelbach rises in the Prappach preliminary stage of the southern grave field at an altitude of about 312  m above sea level. NN in the Wiesenflur Schmidsgrube north-northwest of the Haßfurt district of Prappach and north of the Altenberg ( 312  m above sea level ) on the western edge of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Haßbergetrauf from Zeil am Main to Königsberg .

It initially flows in a gentle curve southwest through fields and meadows along the northwest slope of the Altenberg and after just under one kilometer it reaches the village of Prappach at the TSV Prappach sports facilities . It disappears north of Prappacher Strasse , which is a part of HAS 23 , dents underground, then passes underground piped along Prappacher Strasse south-south-west of the town center and then reappears on the surface a good half a kilometer downstream on the southern edge of the district.

Accompanied by the HAS 23, it now runs south-west at the western foot of the Rappberg ( 343  m above sea level ) along the Rohrwiesen corridor and past a small sewage treatment plant . In a medieval desert with an earth stable , a nameless field stream flows towards it on its left. A little to the southwest of it are the remains of a linear ceramics settlement .

It then crosses HAS 10 and is immediately fed again on its left side by the small Dessaubach coming from the east . The Sterzelbach then moves strongly straightened and accompanied by a tree gallery towards the southwest through grassland. At the hobby gardens he reaches the eastern outskirts of Haßfurt. This time the Himmelreichgraben , approaching from the northeast, flows into the Sterzelbach from the right . A little further down the stream, the remains of a second Neolithic settlement were found.

The stream passes through the northwest of the Galgenfeld Lake the Zeiler road (part of the B 26 ) and runs lined with strong woody on the southern edge of Hassfurt along. It then crosses Augsfelder Straße and is reinforced by the Poldergraben coming from the southwest just before the platform on the Bamberg – Rottendorf line .

The Sterzelbach now crosses under the track system, then flows past the local football fields, then dives briefly into the sewer system, then comes back to the surface at the water and shipping office and finally flows out at a height of 217  m above sea level. NN at about Main km 355.7 almost one hundred meters south of the Haßfurter Schutzhafen and almost opposite the Mariaburghauser See from the right and finally coming from the east into the Main .
