The Ketchup Song (Aserejé) is a song by the Spanish girl group Las Ketchup from 2002. The single release reached number one in the charts in many countries. The fashion dance of the year 2002 was created for this song .
Music genre
In a mix of Spanish and English, the song describes the story of Diego, who dances in the disco to a piece that the DJ puts on every evening. He sings: "Aserejé, ja deje tejebe tude jebere sebiunouba majabi an de bugui an de buididipí", which is a phonetic "implementation" of the first lines of the rap title Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang : "I said a hip hop the hippie, the hippie / To the hip hip hop and you don't stop / A rock it to the bang bang boogie / Say, up jump the boogie, to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat ”. In addition to the English-Spanish version, there is also a purely Spanish-language version.
The melody of the piece was used in the Gerd show for the political-satirical tax song (Las Kanzlern) , which was also number one in the charts for weeks in 2002.
Chart placements
In May 2002, The Ketchup Song reached number 1 in Spain and stayed there for five weeks. The song reached the top position in the single charts in numerous other countries, including Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Sweden and Hungary.
