Stevan Larner
Stevan deFreest Larner (born February 6, 1930 in New York City , † November 6, 2005 in Solvang , California ) was an American cameraman .
Life
After graduating from Yale University , Stevan Larner was drafted into the Korean War for military intelligence . He then studied at the French film school Institut des hautes études cinématographiques , after which he was drawn to the Algerian war as a documentary filmmaker and news reporter . On his return he taught at the American Film Institute and made films such as The Buddy Holly Story , Roots and Torches in the Storm .
In 1997, Larner retired from Hollywood with his wife and bought a winery in the Santa Ynez Valley , where he made his own wine from then on.
On November 6, 2005, Stevan Larner died as a result of an accident on his winery. He was survived by his wife and their daughter and son.
