The tenth presentation of the Independent Spirit Awards took place on March 25, 1995.

Summary

As in the previous year, one Ang Lee film was nominated for six awards and won none: Eat Drink Man Woman (Yin shi nan nu) . Also empty-handed was Alan Rudolph for Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle) , this movie was nominated five times. The big winner was Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction with four awards, including two (direction and screenplay) for Tarantino himself. The Best Director Award he won against big-name competitors: Roman Polanski for The Death and the Maiden (Death and the Maiden) (the only nomination for this film), Alan Rudolph, John Dahl and Woody Allen , whose black comedy Bullets Over Broadway nominated for four awards was and won two. Among the newcomers, David O. Russell beat Kevin Smith 's Clerks with Spanking the Monkey . The award for the best foreign film went to Krzysztof Kieślowski , who has already been nominated, for his last film Drei Farben: Rot (Trois couleurs: Rouge) .
