The Donauschwäbisches Zentralmuseum Foundation was established in July 1998 and aims to preserve the cultural tradition and assets of the Danube Swabians by comprehensively documenting history, culture and landscape, collecting and presenting cultural assets, as well as regional and folklore research on the Danube Swabian regions of origin makes accessible. At the same time, it is intended to disseminate and deepen knowledge about the south-eastern neighbors in order to contribute to understanding in Europe. For this purpose, the foundation operates the museum in the Reduit Obere Danube Bastion of the federal fortress in Ulm .
Mission of the Foundation, Founder and Financing
In accordance with Section 96 of the Federal Expellees Act, the foundation preserves the cultural tradition and the cultural assets of the expelled Danube Swabians . The preservation of the cultural property takes place on four levels:
- Documentation of history, culture and landscape
- Collection and presentation of cultural property
- Development and publication of regional and ethnographic research on the Danube Swabian regions of origin
- Dissemination and deepening of knowledge about the south-eastern neighbors
The foundation receives its funds in the form of grants from the federal government, the federal state of Baden-Württemberg and the city of Ulm. The city, state and federal representatives are represented on the foundation committees. The Danube Swabian country teams are members of the Board of Trustees:
- Country team of the Banat Swabians
- Country team of Germans from Hungary
- Sathmar Swabians
- Country team of the Danube Swabians from the former Yugoslavia .
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is an executive, monitoring and supervisory body that supports the Executive Board and defines the principles for the work of the Foundation. Members of the Board of Trustees are:
- Reinhold Gall , Minister of the Interior of the State of Baden-Württemberg and Member of the State Parliament
- Thomas Lindner, Ministerialrat , federal representative
- Ivo Gönner , Mayor of Ulm
- Peter-Dietmar Leber , Federal Chairman of the Banat Swabian Landsmannschaft
- Klaus J. Loderer, Federal Chairman of the Landsmannschaft of Germans from Hungary
- Franz Flock, country team of the Danube Swabians
- Helmut Berner, Federal Chairman of the Sathmar Swabian Landsmannschaft
- Horst Förster, Director of the Institute for Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies
- Jan Merk, President of the Baden-Württemberg Museum Association
A board of directors administers the foundation in accordance with the purpose of the foundation and the statutes; a scientific advisory board advises the board of trustees, the board of directors and the management on the conception of the museum and on the construction and expansion of the museum.
The chairman of the board is Iris Mann, mayor of the city of Ulm. Other members of the board are the deputy chairman Herbert Hellstern, ministerial director in the Ministry of the Interior in Baden-Württemberg, and Hans Supritz , federal chairman of the Danube Swabian country team.
Cultural funding for Southeast Europe
The cultural advisor for Southeastern Europe , Swantje Volkmann since September 2000 , implements the foundation's tasks in close cooperation with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media , with the aim of imparting knowledge of centuries-old German culture and history in Eastern Europe to the general public.
