Swantje Volkmann (born August 24, 1967 in Gardelegen / Altmark , German Democratic Republic ) is cultural advisor for Southeast Europe at the Donauschwäbisches Zentralmuseum Foundation in Ulm and a member of the federal board of the Banat Swabian Landsmannschaft .

Life

Swantje Volkmann passed the Abitur in 1986 in Gardelegen at the extended secondary school K. FW Wander . From 1986 to 1989 she studied history teacher and German teacher for the upper level education and psychology in Dresden . In 1989 she was de-registered due to an application to leave the Federal Republic of Germany .

From 1990 Swantje Volkmann studied at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , majoring in Medieval and Modern History and a minor in European Art History . In 1996, she submitted her master's thesis on the subject of the planned structure of a cultural landscape using the example of the settlement of the Temescher Banat in the 18th century and received her master's degree . From 1997 to 2000 she made numerous archive and study visits in Tübingen , Rottenburg , Munich , Vienna , Budapest , Timisoara and Maria Radna . In 2000 she completed her doctorate at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg with the dissertation: Architecture in the Temescher Banat in the 18th century .

Since 2002 Swantje Volkmann has been cultural advisor at the Danube Swabian Central Museum in Ulm on behalf of the Federal Commissioner for Culture and Media . Her main focus is on broad-based cultural work on the preservation, dissemination and research of the history of the German settlement areas in Southeast Europe and cross-border contacts with local ethnic groups in Southeast Europe . Your work aims to promote the growing together of Europe in the cultural field.

In this role, Swantje Volkmann is responsible for conveying the history and cultural characteristics of Germans in Southeast Europe. Her focus here is on the Danube Swabians and the Transylvanian Saxons . For this purpose, it offers various events, both in Germany and in the former settlement areas, including lectures , seminars or workshops in schools, adult education centers, adult education institutions, family education centers, the Danube office in Ulm and in connection with town twinning.

In addition, it supports the broad cultural work of the Danube Swabian and the Transylvanian-Saxon Landsmannschaft, such as the Landsmannschaft der Donauschwaben , the Landsmannschaft der Banat Swabians , the Landsmannschaft der Sathmarer Swabians , the Landsmannschaft of Germans from Hungary and the Association of Transylvanian Saxons . On February 12, 2011 Swantje Volkmann became a member of the federal board of the Landsmannschaft of Banat Swabians.
