The Stillwater River is an approximately 120 km long right tributary of the Flathead River in the US state of Montana .
River course
The Stillwater River rises at an altitude of about 1900 m in the Whitefish Range , a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains . It flows mainly in a south-southeast direction. The Upper Stillwater Lake and Lower Stillwater Lake lie along the river . The Stillwater River eventually reaches the town of Kalispell . 9 km above the mouth, the Whitefish River meets the Stillwater River from the left. This finally flows 5 km southeast of Kalispell into the Flathead River, 10 km from the north shore of Flathead Lake . The US Highway 93 runs between Stryker and Whitefish nearly 40 km along the river.
Hydrology
The Stillwater River drains an area of about 2010 km². The mean discharge 13 km above the mouth is 10.7 m³ / s. The highest monthly runoffs usually occur during the snowmelt in May.
