The Stoteler See is an artificial swimming and leisure lake in the municipality of Loxstedt in Lower Saxony . It lies within the nature reserve " Teichfledermausgewässer ".

description

The lake was named after the nearby town of Stotel and was created during the construction of the federal motorway 27 to the west . It is about 1 km long in a west-east direction, 30 hectares in size and up to 14.5 m deep. The area is characterized in the north by the Geest and in the south by the Stoteler Moor . Excess water caused by precipitation is drained through the Hahnenknoop-Hetthorn moor canal into an oxbow lake of the Lune .

The fish species eel , perch , pike , carp , roach , rudd , tench and pikeperch are found in the lake . The area also provides a habitat for waterfowl such as mallard , teal , greylag goose , water rail and coot .

The bathing operation is monitored by the DLRG local group Samtgemeinde Hagen, for which a guard station is available. There are also fishing areas, RV parks and a hotel with a restaurant. The lake is also the starting point for a separate hiking trail. A local recreation area in the south of the lake was developed in terms of infrastructure, but because of the boggy subsoil it was not built on and completed. In the course of the construction of the Weser tunnel and the federal highway 437 , the lake was to be partially designated as a nature reserve and a second lake to be created to the north, but this was discarded for the construction of the Loxpark industrial park.

In the village of Stotel, the streets "Am Stoteler See" and "Zum See" were named after the water.
