history

founding

The name of the cultural center "Strasse E" goes back to the GDR era, when industrially used streets were marked with letters.

The street name "Strasse E" was retained until 1997 when it was given its current name Werner-Hartmann-Strasse . The Dresden industrial area was originally built for military reasons. In the construction plans, the "Reithalle Strasse E", which is part of the cultural center next to the "Bunker", was planned as the riding hall for the Royal Saxon Cavalry . Shortly after completion, however, the riding arena was converted into an armaments location for the First World War . After the end of the First World War, the armaments facilities were dismantled. Since then, the industrial site has been used for civilian purposes.

Among other things, a cotton mill was created . In the course of the Second World War , air raids were built for the workers. The basement of the southern end of the riding hall was also converted into a shelter and is now also booked for events such as concerts . The southern head building is known as "Bunker Strasse E".

Concert area

The first events took place in the early 1990s, but were mostly organized illegally by young people. In the course of these illegal events, today's cultural center had a bad reputation, as drug consumption was also mentioned at the events.

In 1995 the controlled use of the "old spinning mill" began. Despite the poor condition of the site, the operator managed to organize several successful events and to establish the club on a regional level by 1998. In 1996 the club "Bunker" was founded by several sub-tenants. Shortly afterwards, the riding arena was made usable, initially temporarily. In the autumn of 1998 the cultural center was facing economic failure. The crew of the Club "Bunker" designed a new usage concept for the entire site and became the new operator of the cultural center.

Over the years, renovation work took place on the concert area. The improved ambience and the improved equipment of the facilities enabled more and more events to be brought to the Kulturzentrum Strasse E. Today the concert site is well known beyond the region and is an integral part of Dresden's cultural landscape.

Events

Since it opened in 1996, the "Bunker" has mainly hosted black events. Concerts range from Gothic to EBM , Darkwave , Industrial and Neofolk . The bunker can accommodate 400 people for events with seats and 1,100 for events without seats. In contrast to the riding arena, the bunker is mainly used as a disco.

The "Reithalle", which can accommodate up to 2,000 people (standing), is used for musical events as well as for trade fairs , art events, musicals and collectors' fairs . Musicians and bands who have already performed in the Reithalle include Farid Bang , Kollegah , Fritz Kalkbrenner , Blutengel , Zeromancer , Intohimo , Eskimo Callboy , Close to Home , The Browning , Project Pitchfork and Lacrimosa . The riding hall can accommodate up to 954 visitors for events with seats.

The "old spinning mill" is no longer available for events today.
