Network plan

The Spanish city of Parla in the province of Madrid has had a tram running on a ring line since 2007 . This enables travel connections within the city of Parla as well as with the rest of the Madrid metropolitan area . The track width is 1435 millimeters, so there is compatibility with the other operated or planned tram routes in the city of Madrid - and also the possibility of exchanging vehicles.

history

The plans for the construction of the tram came from the city administration. The first section was opened on May 6, 2007 and the second section on September 8, 2007, after the section between Plaza de Toros and Poligono Industrial Ciudad de Parla was completed with the construction of the Parla Norte stop , which is to open later, and one Change to the S-Bahn Madrid (Spanish: Cercanías) will allow.

The Parla tram consists of a ring-shaped route with 15 stops at an average distance of 500 meters. The route is a total of 8.3 km. It connects the city center with new building areas (including Parla Este) and important points of the city such as the police station, health and cultural centers, shopping centers, etc. City.

Further planning

The construction of two more lines is planned for the future; they too should be ring-shaped.

  • Line 2 is intended to develop the PAU-5 area, which is on the edge of the A-42, where the future Parla Technology and Industrial Park is developing.
  • Line 3 is to open up the future residential areas in the south of Parla as well as the hospital and the planned new S-Bahn station in the south of Parla.

Fare

Ticket for 10 journeys (value 7 €).

The fare is 1.10 euros for a single journey and 7 euros for a 10-journey ticket. The price is identical to the price of the city bus lines, the ticket can be used in both modes of transport. The season tickets of the Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid at least zone B2 are also recognized.

capacity

The capacity of the railways is 182 people, comparable to three city buses . The Alstom Citadis 302 low-floor articulated tram is used , which is also used in Barcelona , Murcia , Tenerife and on the Madrid light rail system.

Accompanying measures

In addition to the construction of the tram route, Park & Ride areas were built on the outskirts of the city in order to reduce inner-city car traffic and promote the use of the tram.

reviews

The project has been criticized on various occasions because Parla is a dormitory city south of Madrid, where most of the transport links to neighboring cities run. In Parla itself there are only jobs in small businesses and in the service sector . Therefore, better inter-city traffic connections are needed. In addition, the current route does not connect all areas of the city such as La Laguna or the Hospital Infanta Cristina .

Because of the future planned expansion of the tram network with the creation of further lines that would open up the entire city, all current deficiencies will be remedied. In addition, the proponents argue that thanks to the tram, all of Parla will be connected to the S-Bahn and thus get a connection to the capital. Overall, the tram facilitates transport within the city, thereby strengthening the local economy and the local service sector.

In the first year of operation, 2,350,000 passengers used the tram. In the second year of operation the number rose to 3,800,000 passengers and in the third year of operation to 4,380,000 passengers. Despite the strong increase in passenger numbers, there are voices who do not consider the demand on the route to be tram-worthy.

So far, architects and other executives from the Netherlands , China and New Zealand have visited the Parla tram, as well as from other Spanish cities such as Valladolid , Ciudad Real or Seville . In January 2011, future tram drivers from Zaragoza visited the city because the tram operation is one of the best in Spain.
