The approximately 11 centimeters long leaves are alternate and, in contrast to most of the umbelliferae, undivided. They are still leathery, elliptical in shape and shiny on the top, while the underside is dull green. The flowers grow in umbels comprising 5–25 rays and are surrounded by bracts . Each flower has five very small sepals , petals do not exist. The fruit of the shrubby rabbit's ear is up to 8 millimeters long, egg-shaped and narrowly winged.
