Along with Schlierbach , Udenhain , Hellstein , Neuenschmidten and Spielberg, Streitberg is one of six districts of the municipality of Brachttal in the East Hessian Main-Kinzig district . It is also the smallest district with a population of approx. 270. It is the second district of Brachttals next to Spielberg , which is located on the Spielberger Platte .

history

The first verifiable mention of it comes from the year 1377. In 1500 Stridberg is mentioned , a year later the name Streidtburgk appears and further name variants are Stripurgk (1528) and Steytberg (1554). Then the place name Streitberg has become naturalized. From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the place had forest rights ( wood and hat rights ) in the Büdinger Forest .

On February 1, 1971, Streitberg was incorporated together with Spielberg into the Brachttal community, which had been newly formed in the previous year.

Even before the merger, village community houses were built in the villages of Neuenschmidten, Spielberg and Udenhain, and these are frequently used by the residents as meeting places. Three more village community houses have been completed since the merger in the districts of Hellstein, Schlierbach and Streitberg.

Public facilities

schools

The opening of a new, multi-location school in Schlierbach on January 12, 1961 and its first expansion soon (1966) was a signal for Streitberg to close the one -class local school . The new institution in Schlierbach gradually developed from a school with primary and secondary levels to a pure elementary school . The catchment area soon included not only the three Brachttaler valley communities, but also Spielberg and the Wächtersbacher mountain communities Wittgenborn , Waldensberg and Leisenwald in addition to Streitberg .

The secondary school for the Streitberg students is the cooperative comprehensive school , the Friedrich-August-Genth-Schule, located in the city center of Wächtersbach . Spielberg and the other Brachttaler districts are, as well as the Wächtersbach communities, connected to this school center by bus lines.

Village community center

Streitberg has a village community center . In addition to communal use, the facilities can also be booked for private events of all kinds, family celebrations, presentations, seminars and the like.

fire Department

The Spielberg Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1929. A youth fire brigade was added in 1995 and a bambino group in 2004. Today the operations department has 20 people, the youth fire brigade 10 people and the children's group has 1 member.

Culture and sights

societies

The clubs and associations include the volunteer fire brigade, the rural women’s association and the hunting cooperative as well as the Brachttal-Streitberg freezing community.

Lindenhof Museum

The very attractive, perfectly and lovingly furnished ceramics museum, the Lindenhof Museum, is located at Lindenstrasse 2. In addition to permanent exhibitions, it also offers changing, current topics from the field of Wächtersbach ceramics.

landscape

Alongside Spielberg, Streitberg is one of the higher-lying districts of Brachttals, in the west of the municipality. It therefore offers wide views over a charming, agriculturally characterized, partly stony, partly wooded low mountain range, up to the higher protruding peaks of Vogelsberg , Spessart , Rhön and Taunus .
