Spontaneous "swarm artists" sticking price labels on the Ballhofplatz in Hanover

Bar code in Hanover is art in public space as hands-on action art . The "swarm art campaign" , in which millions of special price labels are stuck in the old town of Hanover from the historical museum to the red light district , is intended to question sexuality and art that can be bought . Behind Strich-Code are the artists Kerstin Schulz , Ulrike Enders and Dagmar Schmidt , the artist Franz Betz and the journalist Susanne Lindau. The five have launched an art project in which the work around sex for sale on the one hand and art for sale on the other is questioned through light sculptures, sculptures, photographs and a price label installation.

The so-called “ Prostitution Act ” has been in force since January 1, 2002 , through which voluntary sex work has become legal employment. Ten years after the Prostitution Act came into force, Kerstin Schulz initiated a swarm art campaign that pointed to parallels between prostitution and the art business: “How much does an artist have to bend in order to be able to live from his work? [...] Are artists [...] idealists [...], ready to serve society or is it not primarily about self-realization or even just about living out personal compulsions? "From joint reflection on the" topics of appreciation , transparency, Intimacy , Sexuality, For Sale, Art and Commerce ”the art project of an (for everyone) open price label installation developed .

In the meantime, thanks to the success in 2012, a supraregional follow-up project has been launched. "Strich / Code / Move" started in July 2019 in Berlin and will subsequently move through other cities as a hiking swarm art campaign.

Since June 19, 2012 everyone has been able to take part in the artistic action spontaneously and without registration. The action days, which were scheduled to run until September 7, 2012, took place three times a week, from the Historical Museum on the Leineufer across the old town of Hanover to the table dance club hands off involved (in Reitwallstraße near the Am Steintor square ). The meeting point was always the Ballhofplatz .

Since August 27, 2012, a tram on line 17 between Aegidientorplatz and Wallensteinstrasse has been announcing the participation: Up to 40 swarm artists had around 600,000 neon-colored labels "in a kind of relief" on the train in 18 hours at the ÜSTRA depot in Glocksee glued.

On September 9, 2012, the opening ceremony took place in the inner courtyard of the Hanover Historical Museum . By then, 3,750,000 price labels had been stuck up by over 50 swarm artists.
