history

A document according to which Strijen would have been founded in 992 has turned out to be a forgery. The place owes its name to a small stream called Striene . After all, Strijen already existed in the 13th century. The St. Elisabeth flood (1421) separated it from today's Noord-Brabant . Most of the village burned down in 1759. Other disasters were a bombing on 14 May 1940, when the Second World War and Rotterdam was hit, and the North Sea flood of 1953 .
