Cromstrijen ( listen ? / I ) was a municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland with a total area of ​​70.33 km² and population as of September 30, 2018 of 12,848. On January 1, 2019, it was merged with the municipalities of Binnenmaas , Korendijk , Oud-Beijerland and Strijen to form the new municipality of Hoeksche Waard . Audio file / audio sample

The parish was named Cromstrijen in 1984 after a glory that existed around 1500. It consisted of two villages that were separate communities until 1984:

  • Numansdorp, which was built in the 17th century with a church from that era and the town hall of the municipality.
  • Klaaswaal, which originated in the 16th century.

Location, economy, sights

The municipality on Hollands Diep in the south of the island of Hoeksche Waard , not far from Willemstad, municipality of Moerdijk , is crossed by the Rotterdam - Bergen op Zoom motorway . Most of the residents make a living from farming or are commuters who work in Rotterdam or Dordrecht . There are some remarkable old thatched roof farms in both villages. Bike tours are possible across the polder dykes. There is a campsite and two small marinas in the municipality.

The municipalities of Binnenmaas , Cromstrijen, Korendijk , Oud-Beijerland and Strijen were merged into a new municipality with the name Hoeksche Waard on January 1st, 2019 .

Due to the merger on January 1, 2019, the elections for the council of the new Hoeksche Waard municipality took place on November 21, 2018.

Jan Luteijn ( SGP ) has been the acting mayor of the municipality since December 1, 2011 . His colleagues include the alderman Bas Boelhouwers ( Cromstrijen '98 ), Hans Flieringa ( VVD ), Pieter Paans ( CDA ) and the municipal secretary Gerard Boluijt .
