Stroban is a mixture of substances from the group of chloroterpenes .

Extraction and presentation

Stroban by chlorination of camphene or pinene won. Their double bond is first chlorinated to 2- exo , 10-dichlorobornane by Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement . The subsequent further chlorination is unspecific and leads to a mixture of more highly substituted derivatives, the chlorine content of which is 65% for Stroban and 67 to 69% for the related Toxaphen .

use

Stroban was used as an insecticide . It was approved in the GDR until 1967 and in the FRG until 1974. Today it is not approved as a crop protection agent in the European Union or in Switzerland . In the USA, stroban was mainly used in the 1960s as an active ingredient in pesticides for growing cotton. In addition, it was also for the mothproof equipment used by wool fabrics, as well as household insecticide.
