The straw-yellow orchid ( Dactylorhiza ochroleuca ) belongs to the genus orchids ( Dactylorhiza ) in the family of orchids (Orchidaceae). The taxonomic rank is controversial. Some botanists call the plant a subspecies Dactylorhiza incarnata subsp. ochroleuca of flesh-colored boy herb considered.

The straw-yellow orchid is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 20 to 60 centimeters. The leaves are mostly towering, less often bent back, lanceolate , light green and always unspotted. The dense inflorescence with up to 80 flowers is up to 20 cm long. The bracts are longer than the flowers. The flowers are without a pattern, whitish yellow with a slightly darker yellow to greenish discoloration at the base of the lip ( labellum ). The lateral sepals (sepals) are erect sideways. The petals incline to form a helmet.

The flowering period is between May and July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 40.

Distribution and occurrence

The plant is widespread in Europe from England to Ukraine . In Russia, for example, in the southern Urals . It occurs in Great Britain, Ireland, Sweden, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Baltic States. It is rare and grows in wet meadows and flat moors with basic soils. According to Baumann and Künkele, this subspecies has the following altitude limits in the Alpine countries: Germany 38–850 meters, France 450–570 meters, Switzerland 380–540 meters, Liechtenstein 440–490 meters, Austria 180–500 meters. In Europe it rises from 2 to 850 meters.
