Stuart Robertson (special effects artist)

George Stuart Robertson (born June 17, 1943 in Frankfort , Kentucky ) is an American special effects artist and VFX supervisor .

Life

Robertson made his BFA in 1965 at the University of Kentucky , followed by a at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago filed Master of Fine Arts in 1975. He began his film career in the early 1980s and had his feature film debut in 1983 with Woody Allen's comedy Zelig . For this he was nominated for the BAFTA Film Award in the category Best Visual Effects the following year together with Gordon Willis , Joel Hynek and Richard Greenberg . He was employed at Industrial Light & Magic for a number of years, during which time he worked on James Cameron's science fiction films Abyss and Terminator 2 - Judgment Day . In 1999 he won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects for Vincent Ward's Behind the Horizon, along with Joel Hynek, Nicholas Brooks and Kevin Scott Mack .

Robertson retired from the film business in the mid-2000s and accepted a professorship at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah , Georgia .
