One day when George Altman finds a pack of condoms while cleaning up his daughter Tessa's room, he decides to move to the suburb of Chatswin with her. Tessa doesn't believe in moving to suburban hell because she thinks the residents are bourgeois and superficial.

After George and Tessa move into their suburban home, their neighbors Sheila and Fred try desperately to invite them over to dinner. After a few attempts to avoid these invitations, the two overcome each other and go to their neighbors for dinner. At dinner, George and Tessa get to know their children. Tessa quickly becomes friends with her daughter Lisa; and as for the equally attractive and underexposed son Ryan Shay, Tessa finds that she is attracted to him. Meanwhile, George is urged by Sheila to finally hold his "debut barbecue".

George becomes increasingly annoyed by Sheila's attempts to meddle and decides to protest to join the teacher-parent committee at Tessa's school. Because Tessa wears the clothes of the deceased girl, the neighbor's daughter Lisa believes that Tessa is possessed by Misty and tries to drive the dead girl out of her.

However, when he is surprised by the housekeeper, he slips and knocks out a tooth.

Meanwhile, Sheila desperately tries to convince Lisa to wear a traditional dress for Thanksgiving dinner, but Lisa opts for something a little more contemporary.

When Fred wins $ 14,000 from his gambling addiction and is on the verge of freaking out, the vacation threatens to tip over, but together the boys find a solution to hide the profit from Sheila. Meanwhile, Tessa wants to take the opportunity of the free house to spend a night with Scott Strauss, but this is prevented by unexpected visits.

To restore order, he tries to win Carmen over as housekeeper and showered her with gifts, which leads to trouble with Dallas, because she wants to keep Carmen at all costs.

Meanwhile, Tessa is asked by Sheila to look for a date for Lisa, whereupon Tessa finds the supposedly perfect partner for Lisa on the Internet.

Tessa surprisingly takes over the production of the school station and invites Ryan to speak live about his body. Tessa, Malik and Lisa go to a college party to finally have a real party. After Tessa learns of Lisa's plan to marry Malik, she is initially shocked by the idea that someone will marry so young, but then she realizes that she should support her friend in her wish and gives up her resistance to the marriage. When Lisa at a dinner with Malik's parents, his marriage proposal makes Malik, however, some time does not answer, thinks Lisa that he did not return her feelings, and applied leaves and sad Malik's house. After Malik realizes his feelings for Lisa, he again proposes to her at school, and Lisa says yes. Meanwhile, George notices that his girlfriend is very unfriendly to her employees and decides to investigate his suspicions.

When Fred meets a nice woman on his blind date and Sheila finds out about them, Fred has to come up with something to appease his wife and dissuade him from her campaign of revenge.

It's time for a beauty pageant again in Chatswin and all the mothers are busy preparing. When Tessa meets a girl in the cafeteria who is marginalized by the other contenders for the title "Miss Chatswin" , she discovers her social streak and decides to become her mentor. Since the favorite of the beauty pageant is coached by Dalia, a competition develops between the two, which is getting worse and worse.

It's time for Tessa and Dalia to figure out what to do after school. The two are applying for college, and things are looking good for Tessa too. But Dalia is turned down at the only college she has applied to. However, because she needs employment after school, she tries a variety of jobs, but is underqualified for most of them. Eventually she becomes a consultant in the Dallas business that now sells belts in addition to crystal jewelry. Meanwhile, Tessa is used by her father to mess with a pretty woman by acting as a date for her son.

Tessa helps Malik and Lisa with the wedding planning, but this turns out to be difficult because there is not a large budget. Aside from planning the wedding, Malik also has the problem that his family has decided to boycott the wedding. Not knowing who will lead him to the altar, he asks George to help him. George, who is also not enthusiastic about the wedding of the two young people, talks to Malik's parents, who finally agree to come to the wedding.

While Malik and Lisa try to enjoy their marital happiness, Tessa decides to stop looking after boys and concentrate on household chores, such as chores. B. Focus on knitting. When her knitting group, consisting of four older women, advises her to enjoy her life while she is still young, Tessa decides to try her luck again with Ryan, who she still cares about. Since Ryan has not found true happiness with his current girlfriend either, the two get together again. Meanwhile, Malik and Lisa realize that even after the wedding they are still independent people and do not have to do everything together as a couple.
