The Sugar Creek is a left tributary of the Wabash River in the US state of Indiana . The river is about 150 km long and drains an area of 2100 km². The mean discharge at the Crawfordsville gauge is 14.5 m³ / s.
Sugar Creek has its source in Clinton County 55 km north of Indianapolis . It flows mainly in a west-southwest direction. The towns of Kirklin, Mechanicsburg, Thorntown and Darlington are located along the course of the river. Then he passes the northern edge of the city of Crawfordsville . Shades State Park and Turkey Run State Park are protected areas on the lower reaches . Finally, the Sugar Creek flows into the Wabash River 40 km north of Terre Haute .

The lower reaches are the national natural monuments ( National Natural Landmark ) Pine Hills (Shades State Park) and Rocky Hollow Falls Canyon Nature Preserve (in Turkey Run State Park). Canadian yew , Canadian hemlock and Weymouth pine , relics of the last ice age, grow along the course of the river . The Sugar Creek provides a habitat for endangered animal species such as the freshwater mussel Pleurobema clava (“clubshell mussel”) and the perch species Percina evides (“applies to darter”).
