Sulfosulfuron is a chemical compound from the group of sulfonylureas (more precisely the pyrimidinylsulfonylureas).

properties

Sulfosulfuron is a white powder that is poorly soluble in water.

use

Sulfosulfuron is used as an active ingredient in crop protection products. It is used as a post-emergence herbicide to control bristle species and couch grass as well as certain broad-leaved weeds in winter wheat and triticale . The action is based on the inhibition of acetolactate synthase (ALS), an enzyme that is involved in the synthesis of the amino acids isoleucine, valine and leucine in susceptible plants.

Admission

The application for approval in the EU was submitted by Monsanto on April 24, 1997 . With effect from July 1, 2002, sulfosulfuron was approved for use as a herbicide. The approval as an active ingredient was extended in 2011 to the end of 2015. In Switzerland pesticides (e.g. monitor) with this active ingredient are approved, in Germany and Austria none.
