The Sunderner Hügel , called Sünnerske Hürbel in Low German and also better known by this name, is located in the municipality of Stemwede in the north of North Rhine-Westphalia . It is up to 75.9 m above sea level. NN high.
location
95% of the hill is in the Stemwede-Sundern district and around 4% in the Arrenkamp district , a tiny part is part of Haldem . Like the Stemweder Berg , which rises about three kilometers to the north, the Sunderner Hügel lies in the Rahden-Diepenauer Geest .
Landscape image
The hill runs in a tubular shape from north to south: it is over 4 km long, but is only 2 km wide, and at the narrowest point only about 500 m wide. Parts of the Sunderner Hill are still wooded today; especially on the northern part called "Langer Hügel" or in Low German "Lange Hürbel" there are some old trees. At the bell tower (see below) there are three large trees that are well worth seeing.
Worth seeing
The hill is between 45 and 75.9 m high and is up to 35 m above the surrounding area. The southern part is separated from the "Langen Hürbel" by the "Alten Postweg" (L 770), a main road similar to a federal road. To the south of this street you can find the Sunderner bell tower , a tower built in 1850, the bell of which was drawn by hand for centuries. In 1970 it had to give way to the L 770 mentioned above, but it was rebuilt and electrified on the "Glockenbrink". In 1992 it was restored and is now the landmark of the nature village Sundern.

Others
The Sunderner Hügel has a "big sister", the Leverner Hügel . In a broader sense, the Desteler Hügel can still be assigned to the two , but it is not really a hill , as it only rises about 5 m from the surroundings.
