The Suru is a left tributary of the Indus in the Indian Union Territory of Ladakh and in Gilgit-Baltistan ( Pakistan ).

The Suru is fed by the Panzella Glacier in the Himalayas west of the Pensi La Pass. It initially flows north, then turns west. The Kargil - Padum road leads west of Pensi La along the course of the river. The Suru flows north past the Nun-Kun massif and turns north. He passes the places Tongul, Panikhar, Sankoo, Saliskote and Minjee. The Suru flows through the district capital Kargil, after another 5 km takes the Dras from the left and finally flows 20 km further north into the Indus. The last 15 km of the Suru are within the Pakistani special territory of Gilgit-Baltistan. The Suru has a length of 185 km. The mean discharge is 385 m³ / s.
