Susanna Moncayo

Susanna Moncayo (* in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine mezzo-soprano .

Life

Moncayo had her first singing lessons from her mother. At the age of ten she became a member of the children's choir at the Teatro Colón . At the age of sixteen she appeared for one season in the show De Antiguas Razas at the Teatro Margarita Xirgu alongside Jaime Dávalos , Antonio Berni , Domingo Cura , Marcelo Simón , Fortunato Ramos , Cari and Jaime Torres .

In 1979 she went to Rome and studied singing with Giannella Borelli . She continued her training with Elsa Cavelti in Basel and Ana Higueras and Felix Lavilla in Madrid and graduated with a First Prize with Régine Crespin at the Conservatoire de Paris . She made a name for herself as an opera and oratorio singer, chamber musician and interpreter of Latin American popular music.

She made her debut at the Teatro Colón in 1993 , where she a. a. appeared in the operas Rigoletto , L'Orfeo , Die Liebe zu den Drei Orangen , Pelléas et Mélisande (with Frederica von Stade ), Lulu , Faust , Hoffmanns Erzählungen (with Alfredo Kraus ) and Carmen . At La Scala she made her debut in the world premiere of the opera Carillon of Aldo Clementi .

In concerts she sang Schumann's Liederkreis at the Teatro Colón , Mahler's Rückert-Lieder at the Tonhalle Zurich and vocal works by Vivaldi at the Istituto Vivaldi in Venice. She kicked u. a. with the Dresdner Philharmonie , the Netherlands Philharmonic Orkest , Holland Symfonia , the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana , the Orquesta Filarmonica de Buenos Aires , the Camerata Bariloche , the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Argentina , the Orquesta National des Pays de la Loire and the Orquesta National de L'Isle de France and worked with conductors such as Armin Jordan , Kurt Riedel , Zoltán Peskó , Stefan Lano , Jean Paul Penin and Christof Escher and opera directors such as Oscar Araiz , Jorge Lavelli , Alfredo Arias , Stefan Braunschweig , Jacobo Romano and Peter Rinderknecht .

Moncayo performed with Fernando Perez and Judith Mok in the Concertgebouw for the wedding of Máxima and Crown Prince Willem-Alexander . For four years she worked in a duo with the pianist and composer Oscar Alem and recorded with him the album Toda la Pampa with compositions by Alem based on texts by Hamlet Lima Quintana and Suma Paz . Her album Desconcertada with samba arrangements by Quito Gato was nominated for the Premio Gardel .
