Susanne Göpferich-Görnert

Susanne Göpferich-Görnert (born March 17, 1965 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ; † October 30, 2017 ) was a German translation scholar and applied linguist . She was Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Institute for English Studies and Director of the Center for Foreign Language and Job-Oriented Competencies (ZfbK) at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

Life

Göpferich-Görnert was a qualified translator for English and French, specializing in technology. She graduated in 1989 from the Faculty of Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies (FASK) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim . After completing her studies, Göpferich-Görnert worked as a technical author in Karlsruhe and as a terminographer in the context of creating a specialist dictionary. From 1991 to 1994 she completed a doctoral degree in English , Romance studies and applied linguistics (degree: Dr. phil. ). Until 1996 she was a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for English and American Studies, where she was also in charge of the intercultural technical writing model project . Since 1990, Göpferich-Görnert has also been working as a freelance specialist translator, industrial lecturer and management consultant in the fields of translation, technical communication and intercultural communication.

Susanne Göpferich was married to the lawyer Stefan Görnert from Gießen since September 2017.

Scientific work

From 1997 to 2003 she was professor for technical communication and documentation at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences . Subsequently, until 2010, she held a professorship for translation and interpreting studies at the Institute for Theoretical and Applied Translation Studies (ITAT) at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz . From 2005 to 2007 she was also head of ITAT. Göpferich-Görnert completed his habilitation in 2002 at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology (IALT) at the University of Leipzig with the thesis Subject-related text production for the age of globalization: Development of a didactics of knowledge transfer .

From 2010 Göpferich-Görnert was Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Institute for English Studies and Head of the Center for Foreign Language and Job-Oriented Competencies (ZfbK) at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. From 2013 she was also President of the Society for Applied Linguistics .
