Suzanne Perrottet

Suzanne Perrottet (born September 13, 1889 in Rolle VD ; † August 10, 1983 in Zurich ) was a Swiss dancer , dance and movement teacher , choreographer and musician.

Life

Perrottet received training as a violinist at the Geneva Conservatory with Émile Jaques-Dalcroze , and later also in his special class for rhythmic gymnastics . As a qualified teacher of rhythmic gymnastics (1909) she followed Jaques-Dalcroze in 1910 to the educational institute for music and rhythm in Hellerau . There she taught among others Mary Wigman , Marie Rambert and Gustav Güldenstein.

In 1912/13 she went to Vienna to give courses in the Jaques-Dalcroze method. In 1913 she joined Rudolf von Laban on Monte Verità and was his closest colleague in Zurich during the First World War . In 1918 she took over the school, the name of which she changed several times and where she taught until 1979.

From 1916–1917 she took part in DADA evenings at Cabaret Voltaire , playing current compositions by various composers, her own works and improvisations on the piano.

Doctors like Max Bircher-Benner and Carl Gustav Jung sent their patients to Perrottet, and teachers, architects and actors also visited their school. In 1936 she received a teaching position at the ETH Zurich for rhythmic gymnastics, expressive movement and instructions for musical accompaniment. Perrottet became a teacher for pantomime , gymnastics and dance at the Zurich stage studio . In 1939 she was co-founder and until 1955 a member of the board of the Swiss Professional Association for Dance and Gymnastics (SBTG).

In 1990, the library of the Kunsthaus Zürich took over Suzanne Perrottet's estate as a gift from her heirs.
