Swilen Nejkow

Swilen Emilow Nejkow ( Bulgarian Свилен Емилов Нейков , Translit. Svilen Emilov Nejkov , English also written Svilen Emilov Neykov ; born December 14, 1964 in Varna , Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian athlete, politician of the GERB party and from 2009 to 2013 the country's sports minister.

Life

Swilen Nejkow was a student at the Sofia National Sports Academy between 1987 and 1991. He has become multiple Bulgarian rowing champions over the years. He was also a finalist at the 1989 World Rowing Championships in Bled and Tasmania (1990). In 1989 he became world champion at the Student Summer Olympics in Duisburg .

Since 2006 he has been working as a fitness trainer at CSKA Sofia and as a lecturer at the National Sports Academy Sofia. From 2009 to 2013 he was the country's sports minister in the government of Boyko Borisov .

Nejkow is married to the Olympic rowing champion Rumjana Nejkowa , with whom he has two sons and whose coach he was also.
