Swen Knöchel (born December 22, 1973 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ).

Life and work

In 1990 Knöchel graduated from the 10th grade of the 22nd Polytechnic High School in Halle-Neustadt . This was followed by vocational training as an MSR technician at Buna AG in Schkopau . In 1993 Knöchel began further training in the financial administration of the state of Saxony-Anhalt , which he completed in 1995 with a successful career examination in the middle tax administration service. Then he did his basic military service. From 1996 to 2008 he worked as an auditor at the Halle-Süd tax office . He then went on to study at the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences in Königs Wusterhausen , which he completed in 2011 with a degree in finance .

Political party

In 1992 Knöchel joined the Democratic Socialist Party , which later became the Left Party.PDS and is now called Die Linke. From 2007 to 2016 he was chairman of the city association of the Left in Halle. Knöchel was a member of the federal committee from 2012 to 2017. He is a board member of Die Linke Sachsen-Anhalt .

Mandates

In the local elections in 1999 and 2004, Knöchel ran unsuccessfully and from 1999 to 2009 was an expert resident on the audit committee of the Hallescher Stadtrat . In 2009 he was elected as a city councilor in Halle, and in 2014 he was re-elected. There he worked on the finance, personnel and planning committee. On March 31, 2016, Knöchel resigned from his city council mandate.

In the election for mayor of the city of Halle (Saale), Knöchel took 4th place with a share of the vote of 12.4%.

In 2011 he was elected to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt via the state list of the left , where he became a full member of the finance and auditing committee as well as the financial policy spokesman for his parliamentary group. He was a deputy chairman of the 13th parliamentary committee of inquiry . In July 2014 he became chairman of the finance committee.

In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 2016 , he succeeded in re-entering the state parliament.

On March 22, 2016, the left-wing parliamentary group in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt elected Knöchel as parliamentary group chairman . He resigned from this office on October 20, 2017.

He is a member of the Finance Committee and the 15th Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry.
