Sydney FC Women is an Australian women's football team based in Sydney , New South Wales . The professional team was founded in 2008 and plays in the W-League , the highest women's soccer league in the country. The team belongs to the football club Sydney FC whose professional men's team plays in the A-League .

history

2008/09 - foundation and first season

For the 2008/09 season, the Australian Football Association founded the professional women's football league , the W-League . In the same year, Sydney FC decided to set up a women's team in addition to its professional men's team, which played in the A-League . This made the women's team of Sydney FC one of the eight founding members of the new league. The club signed the Australian coach Alen Stajcic. Stajcic led the team to fourth place in the table at the end of the first season. The move into the W-League play-offs was successful. In the semifinals, the team met the Queensland Roar . After a 1: 1 . N V. Sydney FC lost 5: 4 in the penalty shootout .

2009 - Second season

In the second season, the team achieved first place in the table at the end of the season. This enabled the women to win the “W-League Premiership” and make it into the play-offs. Sydney FC beat Canberra United FC 3-0 in the semi-finals . In the final of the play-offs, the Grand Final , the team met the Brisbane Roar . With a 3-2 win over the Brisbane Roar, Sydney FC became "W-League Champion".

2010/11 - third season

After the successful season of the previous year, Sydney FC was once again able to top the table and again the "W-League Premiership". With the move into the play-offs, the team met in the semifinals on the Melbourne Victory won 5-1. In the Grand Final there was the same clash as in the previous season. This time, however, Sydney FC lost 2-1 to Brisbane Roar .

2011/12 - fourth season

In the 2011/12 season, Sydney FC landed in third place in the table. In the semifinals they met the Brisbane Roar . After a 1: 1 . N V. Sydney FC subject with 5: 3 by penalties.

2012/13 - fifth season

In the fifth season, the Sydney FC won fourth place in the table and moved back into the play-offs. In the semi-finals, the team met the Brisbane Roar again and won 2: 3. In the Grand Final , Sydney FC became “W-League Champion” for the second time with a 3-1 win over Melbourne Victory .

2013/14 - Sixth season

In the 2013/14 season, the team reached second place in the table and moved into the W-League play-offs. In the semifinals, the team lost 3-2 to Melbourne Victory FC and thus missed the finals.

2014 - Seventh season

At the beginning of the 2014 season, the previous coach Alen Stajcic was appointed coach of the Australian women's national team. Thus, the Sydney FC had to sign a new coach and chose the Australian Daniel Barrett. Under the new coach, the team reached fourth place in the table at the end of the season and thus moved into the playoffs for the W-League Championship . In the semifinals, the team was eliminated against the Perth Glory with a 0: 3.
