Sydney Peace Prize
The Sydney Peace Prize (also Sydney Peace Prize ) is awarded by the Sydney Peace Foundation , an organization of the University of Sydney . The award is the only international peace award awarded in Australia . The city of Sydney is one of the most important sponsors of the award.
Every year, the seven-member jury, in which economic, media, academic and social interests are represented, assess the nominees' efforts to promote peace through justice within three months. The award can then be given to an organization or a person.
The jury has made controversial decisions in the past. An example of this is the awarding of the prize to Hanan Aschrawi in 2003 . Protests broke out at the time because of her work as the Palestinian spokesperson in the Middle East conflict .
