Sylvie Gaudin

Sylvie Gaudin (born June 19, 1950 in Boulogne-Billancourt , † 1994 ) was a French painter and glass painter . She is the great-granddaughter of the famous glass painter Félix Gaudin .

Sylvie Gaudin comes from a family dynasty of glass painters. She is the daughter of Pierre Gaudin (1908–1973), who in turn is the son of Jean Gaudin (1879–1954) and Jean is the son of Félix Gaudin (1851–1930) and Marie Wetzel (1882–1970).

Life

Sylvie Gaudin studied at the Académie Julian in Paris and then from 1969 at the École supérieure d'arts graphiques (Paris). When her father died in 1973, she took over his workshop on Rue de la Grande-Chaumière in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.

She worked as a restorer of old leaded glass windows and also designed cardboard boxes as templates for new windows. Her first major order in 1977 was the restoration of the windows (16th century) from the Saint-Romain church in Rouen, which was destroyed by bombs in World War II . These were reused in the newly built Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc de Rouen church .

Her own designs are characterized by figurative and symbolic elements and the use of grisaille painting . Despite her untimely death, she left a remarkable work behind.
