The synagogue in Fußgönheim , a local community in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1842. The derelict synagogue at Hauptstrasse 64 (former Mannheimer Strasse) is a protected cultural monument .

history

The building burned down on August 19, 1901 and was rebuilt the following year.

The last church services took place in the synagogue in the late 1920s or early 1930s , as the Jewish community no longer met a minyan (ten Jewish men of legal age).

The synagogue was sold to the savings and loan association (today Raiffeisenbank) in 1936. In 1938 it received an extension and was later converted into a grain warehouse for the Raiffeisen cooperative. The synagogue building was used as a warehouse until 1984.

Todays use

In 1993 the community bought the former synagogue and renovated it in collaboration with a support association. The former synagogue building has been used by the German Potato Museum since 1997 . Inside, decorative paintings from the Jewish period have been preserved.
