The Langerwehe synagogue was in Langerwehe in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
There was already a prayer room in Hauptstrasse 123 before 1865 . The Jewish butcher Hermann Eckstein lived in this house. In 1874 the synagogue was inaugurated behind the house . Around 50 Jews lived in Langerwehe during this period . Jews have lived in Langerwehe since the middle of the 17th century.
As the community grew, a 60 m² brick building was built in the garden of the house on a 239 m² site . The front building was connected to the synagogue and from there the women also reached the gallery . The men had to go through the front building. The small church stood on a high rectangular floor plan that tapered to the east after about twelve meters,
A small building on the east side and a toilet house have been preserved.
“Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Langerwehe synagogue

In this way, the Düren synagogue choir, which had already risen to the full height of its task in an earlier generation, was able to reveal the majesty of the ancient synagogue chants in their masterful modern arrangement in a devout and receptive festival community, which had come together from all over the area. In addition, German chorals - especially the two immediately before and after the well-thought-out and impressive morning sermon by Mr Friedländer - were very effectively heard, so that not only the listeners, but also the singers themselves, were justifiably satisfied The celebration that grew into a harmonious roundness was allowed to look back, because "The note that sounds in the throat is reward that is abundantly rewarding" Also noteworthy was the celebratory event attended by the mayor Beckers, the energetic sponsor and dutiful participant of every kind of commendable purpose Address addressed to the assembly, in which he expressed his satisfaction at being able to understand in the Langerweher Israelites not only loyal citizens, but in part also capable members of the warrior association, the Samaritan department, etc., who lived on the best of terms with their Christian fellow citizens. "
The synagogue was destroyed during the Reichspogromnacht on November 10, 1938. The benches were burned in the street and the cult objects were delivered to the NSDAP local group. A memorial plaque has been on the wall of the preserved house since 1999 .
