Deadly Prey is an American action film directed by David A. Prior from 1987. He was also responsible for the script.
action
A mercenary troop financed by dubious backers has to go through the hard and inhumane training of Colonel John Hogan. In order to make the training realistic and toughening, he has civilians kidnapped, who then serve as living targets. To make it harder for the mercenary troops, Hogan decides that they should look for more suitable candidates. In addition, sponsor Michaelson is pushing for quick successes of the troops and gives the Colonel only one month to put together a decent troop, otherwise he would stop financing the project.
Former US soldier Mike Danton lives secluded with his girlfriend Jaimy in a small town. When he was taking out the trash one morning, some of the mercenaries identified him as a potential victim and kidnapped him. Jaimy can only remember the license plate number and the appearance of the vehicle. She immediately calls her father, a former police officer, and tells them everything she knows about the kidnapping when they meet. Your father decides to go it alone to solve the problem.
Arrived at the base of the mercenaries, Danton dressed only in trousers is driven into the wilderness, pursued by the mercenaries. Danton quickly reveals that he is superior to the other mercenaries. He was once also trained by John Hogan, so he knows every strategy that the mercenaries use to hunt him and can counter them. He kills the mercenaries one by one. Due to the high casualties, the remaining mercenaries withdraw and report to the Colonel. He is swearing in new recruits, including the former soldier Jack Cooper, who likes to shoot. When he learns who Danton is, he sends Lieutenant Thornton with some men to arrest him alive in order to win him over to his services.
Danton also eliminates these mercenaries one after the other, with the exception of Cooper, whose life he once saved in the Vietnam War . Later Danton meets Thornton, with whom he engages in an unarmed duel, which he loses and comes to Hogan prisoner. In a conversation with him and his right hand Sybil, Hogan reveals his goals and his intention to win him over to his services. Danton remains true to himself and refuses. So he is put in a prison tent. In order to return the favor for the action in Vietnam at that time, Cooper decides to free him. Meanwhile, Michaelson appears again and tells the Colonel that he doesn't like the current situation and that he wants Danton to be eliminated. Jaimy's father has since discovered the organization, confronts Michaelson and shoots him.
In order to have some leverage, Jaimy is kidnapped and then raped by Hogan. After his successful escape, Danton makes it back home. There he finds Sybil, who tells him about the kidnapping. After he has shot her, he goes back to the base. There Cooper now finally joins him. In the meantime, Jaimy's father was caught and executed. Danton frees his girlfriend and hides her in the nearby forest, as he has decided to kill all the mercenaries due to the death of his father-in-law. Thornton is able to track down Jaimy and gives her to Hogan, who is also looking in the forest. Cooper appears and shoots Hogan, but is shot dead by Thornton shortly afterwards. He escapes from the battlefield with Jaimy as a hostage.
Danton appears and learns from the dying Cooper what happened. Danton fails to free Jaimy. She is shot by Thornton. After Danton avenges her, he scalps Thornton. He meets Hogan, presents him with the scalp of his most capable man and orders him to undress down to his pants. After that he is now hunting Hogan.

The film was shot in Riverside and the San Fernando Valley , California . The film celebrated its video premiere in the USA in November 1987. Prior wrote the script in two days.

The plot of the film is described as a mixture of the films Graf Zaroff - Genie des Evil and Rambo . Brutality follows the entire plot like a red thread and Danton's adversaries are killed in some strangest ways.

- The film was broadcast on Tele 5 on May 22, 2020 as part of the broadcast format The Worst Films of All Time .
- In 2013, the official successor appeared 27 years after the first part with Tödliche Beute 2 . David A. Prior again directed and wrote the script and starred in a supporting role. Ted Prior, Campbell and Matthews played again, Cat Tomeny and Tara Kleinpeter played the female cast.
