TC Murray

Thomas Cornelius Murray (born January 17, 1873 in Macroom , County Cork , Ireland , † March 7, 1959 in Dublin ) was an Irish playwright .

Life

After attending school he was trained as a teacher at St Patrick's College of Education in Drumcondra and was most recently principal at the National School in Rathduff .

Together with Daniel Corkery , Con O'Leary and Terence MacSwiney , he founded the Cork Literary Society in 1908 , from which the Little Theater emerged in 1909 . In 1909 he made his literary debut with the play The Wheel of Fortune , which appeared after a revision in 1913 under the title Sovereign Love .

Murray wrote a total of fifteen popular-realistic dramas that were shaped by the spirit of the Irish Renaissance and life in County Cork. He also used the pseudonym 'Stephen Morgan'. His best-known pieces from the early years include Birthright (1910) and Maurice Harte (1912).

In 1915 he moved to Dublin, where he became principal of the model school in the Dublin district of Inchicore and worked there until his retirement in 1932. In addition to other stage works, Autumn Fire (1924), which was also performed at Broadway theaters , was created. In 1937 he wrote an autobiographical novel called Spring Horizon .
