The Theater Education Center of the Emsland Landscape eV - short form: TPZ Lingen - is a non-profit institution of the Emsland landscape . It serves the applied aesthetic education and describes itself as a specialist academy for theater, play, dance, circus and media. Its main location is Lingen (Ems) . The TPZ Lingen has existed since 1980 and is the oldest and largest theater education center in Germany.

history

In 1979 the association “Emsländische Landschaft e. V. ”was founded for the districts of Emsland and Grafschaft Bentheim and given the task of promoting cultural identity and diversity in the rural region in terms of infrastructure .

As a counterpoint to the institutions of the cultural metropolises of eastern Lower Saxony ( Hanover , Braunschweig , Hildesheim ), a model experiment in cultural education initially limited to three years has developed with the TPZ since 1980 with funds from the state of Lower Saxony "to promote cultural infrastructure in rural areas" . The city of Lingen quickly recognized the value of this new facility and promised - in addition to the premises - additional annual financial support.

After completion of the pilot project, the facility was named "Theater Pedagogical Center". Since then it has grown continuously. In 1985 the city gave it new rooms in a centrally located historical building, the Professorenhaus. This new cultural center in Lingen housed both the TPZ and the art school of the Lingen Art Association for ten years until it moved into its own building in the immediate vicinity.

In 1994 the TPZ was awarded the highly endowed Ygdrasil Prize from Lego ; the prize money made it possible to set up the theater museum in the professors' house. The founder and long-time director of the TPZ, Norbert Radermacher, retired in summer 2006. Tom Kraus, qualified theater pedagogue and director, then ran the house until December 2013. Since May 2014, the TPZ Lingen has been run by the theater educator Harald Volker Sommer. After Sommers left, theater pedagogue Nils Hanraets took over the management in May 2018.

In 2008 and 2009 the professors' house was converted into an "adventure house for all senses and generations". Since the reopening in August 2009, the focus has been on the playful discovery and sensual exploration of space, perception, movement and self.
