Location of Tabla in Niger

Tabla (also: Tabala ) is a village in the rural community of Tagazar in Niger .

The village, led by a traditional chief (chef traditionnel) , is located around seven kilometers southeast of Balleyara , the capital of the rural municipality of Tagazar, which belongs to the Balleyara department in the Tillabéri region. Larger villages in the vicinity of Tabla are Damana in the north, about 15 kilometers away , Sandiré in the southwest about 17 kilometers and Sargadji in the southeast, about 22 kilometers away .

Tabla was founded in the early 19th century as one of the first permanent Tuareg settlements in the Tagazar area. The local founder Alis Tabla (or Hatta Alissen Tabla) was a revered marabout who is said to have come from Mecca . His successors as rulers were Harhmet, Abderraman, Dargou, Amma, Atta and - in 1901 - Mizza. A market was set up in the village in pre-colonial times. Under French colonial rule , Tabla became the capital of Tagazar in 1922 instead of Sandiré. It lost that status to Balleyara in the 1970s. It was still considered the seat of the traditional local ruler of Tagazar. This ruler, who bore the title Amirou , lived mostly in the capital Niamey and was represented by a delegation on site.

At the 2012 census, Tabla had 2,126 inhabitants who lived in 307 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 1,889 in 221 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 2,402 in 315 households.

With a Center de Santé Intégré (CSI) there is a health center in the village.
