Tacacoma is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Tacacoma is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Tacacoma in the province of Larecaja . The village is located at an altitude of 3515  m on a ridge between two southern tributaries of the Río Mapiri .

Tacacoma is located east of the Altiplano in the Bolivian Royal Cordillera ( Cordillera Real ), which in turn is part of the Cordillera Central .

The mean annual temperature of the region is 15.5 ° C and the annual precipitation is almost 700 mm, favored by the rise of warm and humid air masses from the lowlands. The region has a distinct daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 13 ° C in June / July and 17 ° C in November / December. The monthly precipitation is between less than 20 mm in the months June to August and more than 100 mm from December to February.

Tacacoma is 180 kilometers by road northwest of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz, the asphalt road Ruta 2 leads 70 kilometers northwest to Huarina , from there the Ruta 16 branches off in a northerly direction , which reaches Achacachi after 23 kilometers . Shortly after Achacachi, a country road branches off to the northeast, which reaches the town of Sorata via Warisata after about forty kilometers . From there the road continues via Quiabaya and Tacacoma to Mapiri in the Yungas on the eastern edge of the Cordillera Central mountain range .
