Tacopaya is a town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Tacopaya is the central place of the Municipio Tacopaya in the province of Arque . The village is located at an altitude of 3177  m on the right, southern bank of the Río Arque , which becomes the Río Grande in its further course .

Tacopaya is located between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Cordillera Oriental in the east on the northern foothills of the Cordillera Central .

The climate of the region is semi-arid and a typical daytime climate , in which the daily temperature fluctuations are more pronounced than the temperature differences over the course of the year (see climate diagram Arque).

The annual average temperature is around 10–11 ° C, the monthly averages in June / July are only 6–7 ° C and the summer values ​​in January / February are 13 ° C. The annual precipitation is about 600 mm, the rainiest month is January with 140 mm; from May to August there is a dry season with monthly precipitation of less than 10 mm.

Tacopaya is located in a south-westerly direction 107 kilometers by road from Cochabamba , the capital of the department.

From Cochabamba the paved national road Ruta 4 leads in a westerly direction via the town of Quillacollo to Pongo and on to Caracollo , where it meets Ruta 1 , which crosses the Altiplano from north to south and connects to La Paz , Oruro and Potosí . 8 kilometers after Pongo, a country road branches off to the south, which after 27 kilometers reaches the village of Tacopaya. It continues to Bolívar and Sacaca in the Department of Potosí.
