Talagi ( Russian Талаги ) is a settlement in northwestern Russia . The place belongs to the Arkhangelsk Oblast and has 1829 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). Talagi belongs administratively to the Primorski rajon .

geography

Talagi is located about nine kilometers north of the Oblast capital Arkhangelsk . The place lies on the right bank of the Kuznetschikha ( Кузнечиха ), a tributary of the Northern Dvina . Talagi is the administrative center of the municipality Talaschskoje selskoje posselenije ( Талажское сельское поселение ), which includes Talagi nine villages (one of them uninhabited) with a total of 1975 inhabitants (as of 2010).

history

The current settlement of Talagi was built at the end of the 19th century and in 1908 consisted of eight houses. Even before the Russian colonization in the 12th century, the area was inhabited by Finno-Ugric peoples . The name Talagi is derived from the Finno-Ugric word for willow or willow rod. With the emerging wood industry in the region, a cellulose and paper combine was built in Talagi in 1928. A hospital, brickworks, elementary school and radio station were built in the growing settlement in the 1930s. 1937 originated in Talagi prison detention of the NKVD , which lasted until the 1960th From the end of 1938 to 1942, the administration of the KuloiLag ( Кулойлаг ) was also located here in whose camps up to 30,400 people were temporarily detained. The prisoners of the Gulag, 77 percent of whom were considered so-called " enemies of the people ", were employed in the forest industry and, among other things, in the manufacture of mass-produced goods such as furniture, roof shingles, and tin and pottery. Since 1961, located in the area of the former camp, the Psychiatric Hospital Number 2 of the Arkhangelsk Oblast ( Архангельская областная клиническая психиатрическая больница № 2 ) and a corrective labor camp for juvenile offenders ( Воспитательно-трудовая колония ). In 1978 a large tank farm was built in Talagi .

Infrastructure and traffic

Starting from Archangelsk passing through Talagi Talaschskoje schosse ( Талажское шоссе ) in the direction of 11 km north located village Izhma River ( Ижма ). There are several bus routes to Arkhangelsk. Talagi International Airport is a few kilometers southeast of the town . The majority of the population lives in the prefabricated housing estates in the north of the village . To the east of these settlements directly on the Talaschskoje shot there is a large tank farm. Further east in a forest area is the number 2 psychiatric clinic in Arkhangelsk Oblast . In the south of Talagi there is a reformatory for children ( Детская воспитательная колония ) and a penal colony ( Исправительная колония № 3 ) and three large dachas. Talagi is owned by a middle school.
