Tallulah [ təluːlə ] is a city with the status of City and at the same administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat ) of Madison Parish in US -amerikanischen State Louisiana with 7,335 inhabitants (2012).
geography
Tallulah is around 20 kilometers from the Mississippi River , which flows to the east . The cities of Monroe and Jackson are 90 km west and 100 km east, respectively. The Interstate 20 affected Tallulah in the south.
history
The name of the city came about in an unusual way: a widowed plantation owner persuaded an influential railway official to run the route of a new railway line through her land in order to increase its value. After this happened, however, the railway official felt the favor was not being adequately appreciated and named the place Tallulah after the first name of a former friend, not after the plantation. It was founded in 1857. Cotton , soybeans , wheat , rice and maize have been and are grown on agricultural land .
Demographic data
In 2012 a population of 7,335 people was determined, which means a significant decrease of 20.2% compared to 2000. The mean age of residents in 2012 was 33.5 years, below the Louisiana mean, which was 38.5 years. With 79.3%, residents with Afro-American roots made up the largest proportion of citizens.
