Tama is a rural municipality in the department of Bouza in Niger .

geography

Tama is in the Sahel . The neighboring communities are Allakaye in the northwest, Déoulé in the northeast, Bouza and Azarori in the southeast and Galma Koudawatché and Doguérawa in the southwest. The municipality is divided into 19 villages, 13 hamlets and a water point. The main town of the rural community is the village of Tama. Another large village in the municipality is Kélémé .

history

The rural community of Tama was created as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the southwestern part of the canton of Bouza.

population

At the 2001 census, Tama had 36,223 residents. At the 2012 census, the population was 52,661.

politics

In the local elections in July 2004, Aboubacar Amadou ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is mainly located in an area in which rain-fed agriculture is practiced. In the south begins the zone of irrigated farming . The Tounfafi dam between the villages of Tounfafi and Ladama was built in 1968. In the main town of Tama, where 4,788 inhabitants lived at the time of the 2001 census, there had been only one school for a long time until a second was opened in the north of the town in 2004.
