song lyrics

Debbie Reynolds, who sang the song in 1957, at her Los Angeles home in 1987

I hear the poplars whisper “Tammy, Tammy, Tammy is in love!” (“I hear the cottonwoods whispering above 'Tammy! Tammy! Tammy's in love!'”) The owl tells the dove, Tammy, Tammy, Tammy is in love! My lover feels what I feel when he is close to me. My heart is beating so loud that I think he can hear it. I wish I knew he knew what I'm dreaming Tammy, Tammy, Tammy is in love! Tammy, Tammy can't let him go because she loves him so much. When the night envelops me warm and soft, I long for him. I would sound like a violin if I was in his arms. Tammy, Tammy, Tammy is in love!
