Tamara "Tammy" Lynn Sytch (born December 7, 1972 in Matawan , New Jersey ), better known by her role name Sunny , is an American wrestling manager, wrestler and referee. She is generally considered to be one of the first so-called divas , as the new generation of women in wrestling are called today. With them, the main focus is less on the sporting side than on the visual and acting side. She was inducted into the hall of fame of market leader World Wrestling Entertainment in 2011.

Life

Youth and Beginnings

Tamara Lynn Sytch grew up in Fort Lauderdale as the daughter of a Navy veteran. The parental home is said to have been very strict. Already in high school , she met her long-time partner Chris Candido . After high school, she majored in pre-law at Wellesley College and then moved to the University of Tennessee . There she studied pre-med with the desire to become a pediatrician. Alongside her studies, she worked as a photographer and supported her boyfriend in his wrestling career. When he made a name for himself in the independent scene, he signed with Jim Cornettes Smokey Mountain Wrestling (SMW), a wrestling league near Sytch's University. In order to earn some additional money, she also signed a contract initially limited to six months in 1992. She was given the name Tammy Fytch and played there a supporter of Hillary Clinton who fought for the rights of women in the promotion. The role was very successful and Sytch subsequently became the most hated person on SMV. She then accompanied Brian Lee to the ring as a manager. In 1994, a tag team was formed from Brian Lee and Chris Candido.

World Wrestling Federation (1995-1999)

In 1995 she and Candido were able to get a contract with the market leader, the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), where she was initially used as a companion to Candido. Sytch had her biggest run as manager "Sunny" of the tag team The Bodydonnas , consisting of her boyfriend and Tom Prichard . From 1996 she also managed other wrestlers, including Ron Simmons , The Godwinns , Billy and Bart Gunn as The Smoking Gunns and the Road Warriors . In addition, she was used as a pin-up girl and posed in skimpy clothes for the WWF. In 1996 she also received two slammy awards in the categories of “best buns” and as manager of the year. From 1996 she also appeared as a wrestler. Initially as the manager of Farooq, she started a feud with him against Marc Mero and his wife Rena Mero , known as Sable. The two women were also rivals in real life, with Rena Mero in particular rumored to have her fault at the end of Sytch's WWF career. While Sytch gave the heel , the bad wrestler, on television , she became more and more the face of the WWF and appeared in numerous television shows, including Singled Out and Entertainment Tonight . American Online described her in 1996 as the "most downloaded woman". At the same time, however, she had a miserable reputation in the backstage area. In 1997 she also started a career as a presenter of the wrestling shows WWF Livewire and Shotgun Saturday Night . Her merchandise sold well and she got her own video, named after one of her catchphrases: " What Sunny wants, Sunny gets ". At the end of 1997 she made her first appearance at Extreme Championship Wrestling , where Candido had now ended up after leaving the WWF. There she performed at the side of her long-time partner at PPV Hardcore Heaven .

In 1998 she began to decline in the WWF. While her live performances continued to go well and she became Face again, she received a hard bump from Luna Vachon while recording for WWF Raw . As a result, she was publicly portrayed as a "wimp" and "diva" by various wrestlers. In addition, she did not appear on several occasions at fan conventions, although previously announced. Her last run was as manager of the Legion of Doom 2000 at Wrestlemania 14 . In July 1998, she was finally released for pain medication abuse and unreliability.

Extreme Championship Wrestling (1998–1999)

She then came under the ECW. There she performed again with Candido and the two were the stars of the promotion for a while. However, there were again allegations of substance abuse. In addition, rumors made the rounds that the two wanted to switch to World Championship Wrestling (WCW). She was arrested in February 1999. Her own mother had obtained a ban on her, which she had violated. At first, she withdrew from wrestling and only appeared occasionally. But that was not enough to appease their critics. So Candido and Sytch went to Australia and returned to the ECW on October 8, 1999. However, Paul Heyman finally released the two from their contract towards the end of the month.

World Championship Wrestling (2000)

On March 20, 2000, Candido was released by WCW without Sytch. A direct change was not possible due to contractual difficulties. Sytch followed him on April 16 at the PPV Spring Stampede . The two got off to a good start at WCW and received a lot of encouragement, but rumors of a renewed drug addiction of the two made the rounds. And although all the tests were negative, the rumors stuck with Sytch and she was eventually released along with Candido.

Independent scene

In 2001 the two tried to get into New Japan Pro Wrestling . Sytch nearly died in a ruptured appendix and then took some time off. She also reached a low point in her career in 2001 when she founded the porn platform Wrestlingvixxens.com together with Missy Hyatt . Several hardcore porn with lesbian sex scenes also appeared there. The website showed nude photos of wrestlers for a fee. On August 17, 2002, there was a tangible argument between Low-Ki and Sytch in the backstage area of USA Pro Wrestling. In February 2004, Sytch finally announced that he would retire from wrestling and instead work as a stewardess. Her retirement lasted a year, then she and Candido took part in an ECW reunion for Frank Goodman's UXW, which was initiated by Mick Foley .

Even after the sudden death of Candido, who died on April 28, 2005 as a result of an operation, Sytch remained active in wrestling. She appeared in various smaller promotions, including in 2006 as the manager of Lex Luger . In December 2006 she took on the role of an official for the New Jersey operating promotion NWA Shockwave . In December 2007 she received her first and only wrestling title, the Women Superstars Uncensored Champion title, which she held until March of the following year. Sytch now also appeared increasingly as a wrestler, including for Ring of Honor and at the major event Wrestlemania 25 in 2009, finally for a guest appearance at World Wrestling Entertainment. In 2007 she also tried a new attempt at studying medicine.

Two years later she was inducted into the Hall of Fame for World Wrestling Entertainment . The laudation was given by the entire female wrestler squad. In 2016, Sytch hit the headlines again when she put the ring she received on the occasion of the admission for sale on Ebay . However, in the course of her porn career, she stopped the auction.

Private life

Dating Chris Candido at an early age, she still had an affair with Shawn Michaels and later with Davey Boy Smith during WWF times . She was said to have had another affair with Bret Hart . While she willingly admitted the former affairs in a shoot interview, Bret Hart referred to her in the film Wrestling with Shadows merely as a good friend. Sytch also denies the affair to this day. Her reputation in the backstage area, especially during WWE times, was very poor. She was the source and victim of numerous rumors and rough jokes that fill various wrestling sites and the gossip press with anecdotes. At ECW times she is said to have been heavily addicted to drugs and to serve other wrestlers for her material.

After it looked like Sytch was getting her life back on track between 2007 and 2011, her relationship with a New York police officer fell apart and her life fell apart again. She was arrested several times between 2012 and 2013 and was detained for a total of four months. During this time she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, which could be treated in prison. In jail, she also wrote her autobiography, A Star Shattered: The Rise & Fall & Rise of Wrestling Diva .

In addition to the porn site Wrestlingvixxens.com and its videos, there were also rumors about porn films that it is said to have made. In addition, there were always offers from the porn industry. Much like the offer from Playboy, which probably never existed, Sytch uses these rumors to keep the conversation going. She also marketed her body in other ways. In 2013, fans were able to pose in a bed with her for $ 75. In addition, she is said to have offered private sessions on Skype . Today she is said to have overcome her drug addiction thanks to the help of a rehabilitation program that her old employer WWE paid for.

In 2016, the porn film Sunny Side Up: In Through the Backdoor by the porn giant Vivid was finally released . Rumor has it that she received a six-figure fee for this.
