Vivid Entertainment Group is an American film production company in the porn industry . The listed company was founded by Steven Hirsch and David James in 1984.

Companies

The Vivid Entertainment Group is the market leader in adult DVDs and videos. The group includes the company Vivid Video and several websites . The company also operates the Vivid Man brand for LGBT porn films. A pay TV channel called Vivid TV was sold to Playboy . The best known is the marketing company and exclusive brand Vivid Girls , which is largely distributed over the Internet. In March 2007, Vivid became the world's first production company to release a porn film on Blu-ray Disc ( Debbie Does Dallas ... again).

The films produced by Vivid are relatively expensive compared to other porn films. Production costs between $ 50,000 and $ 300,000 per film and $ 20,000 for marketing. With around 60 films released annually, significantly fewer than competing companies, Vivid generates revenues of US $ 100 million.

Another source of income is the fee-based website vivid.com . With a monthly membership fee of $ 30 and 40,000 members, annual sales are just under $ 15 million.

Politics and marketing

Vivid had a strict condom policy for a while , and the sexual activities featured in the films were milder than other studios. The representations were rather considered couple-friendly and aimed at the broad mainstream market. This approach has changed. In addition to harsher sexual practices in films for the mass market, Vivid also produces and distributes films such as Savanna's Anal Gangbang .

In February 2006 it was reported that the director Chi Chi LaRue had separated from the company because it had switched to a condom-optional policy. In 2012, Vivid CEO Hirsch said California state would be left if condom-making became law because films that use condoms would not sell.
