biography

Usmani graduated from the Pakistani Islamic University of Darul 'Uloom Karachi in 1961 with a Takhassus / Dars e Nizami , the equivalent of a doctorate. He received his master's degree in Arabic literature and his bachelor's degree in law from Karachi University .

He has written numerous books in Arabic, Urdu, and English on major Islamic subjects, as well as many articles on Islamic banking and finance.

In March 2004, he handed the Prime Minister of the UAE , Muhammad ibn Rashid Al Maktoum , during the annual International Islamic Finance Forum (IIFF) in Dubai a prize in recognition of his work regarding the conformity with Islam financial transactions. Usmani lists Ashraf Ali Thanwi as one of his role models.

During the presidency of General Mohammed Zia ul-Haq he participated in the enactment of laws regarding the Hudud ( Hudood Ordinances ), Qisās and other regulations of Islamic law. He vigorously contradicted the "women protection law" because it was only window dressing and was only made to attract the attention of the (western) media. Also distract from the real hidden problems such as B. the serious deficiencies in the enforcement of current law - the state power of the Pakistani government was virtually non-existent in some areas of the country (mostly peripheral provinces such as Balochistan ).

He was known for teaching Sahih al Bukhari at the Islamic University of Darul 'Uloom Karachi , where he had studied himself.

He was a key member of a group of Islamic scholars who, at the time of President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, pushed for the Ahmadiyya to be viewed by the Pakistani state as infidels ( kuffar ): on September 21, 1974, Bhutto consented, and the Ahmadiyya was approved by the Pakistani parliament declared a "non-Muslim religious community" . Formally, they were put on a par with Jews , Christians , Buddhists , Sikhs and Hindus . Furthermore, the Ahmadis were no longer allowed to call themselves Muslims.

For Islamic scholars, including Usmani, the 1974 resolution did not go far enough that the Pakistani government was pressed to tighten the law even further. Under Mohammed Zia ul-Haq, the "Ordinance XX." Was passed in 1984 , whereby the Ahmadis missionary activities including the dissemination of literature were forbidden. Ahmadis were no longer allowed to call their houses of prayer mosques. Signs with the words “ Mosque ” were removed from their mosques and lettering was painted over. Ahmadis the greeting salām , as well as the call to prayer ( adhan ) and the bismillah are forbidden, violations are punished with imprisonment. Because of these difficulties, Mirza Tahir Ahmad, the fourth Ahmadiyya Caliph, left Pakistan and immigrated to London .

The anti-Ahmadiyya laws were and are being imitated in Bangladesh and Indonesia , also relying on Usmani. Scholars like Yusuf Ludyanwi al Hanafi al Deobandi quote Usmani to prove that the Ahmadiyya are "infidels" .

He takes the position that even against non-Muslim majority countries that are not hostile to Islam, jihad must be carried out by military means.
