Tarmo Leinatamm (born September 2, 1957 in Keila , †  October 13, 2014 in Tartu ) was an Estonian conductor, politician and comedian.

Musician

Tarmo Leinatamm (2008)

Tarmo Leinatamm graduated from the Tallinn Music High School ( Tallinna Muusikakool ) in 1976 . He graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory (now the Estonian Academy of Music and Drama ) in 1981 .

From 1981 to 1991 he was (senior) conductor at the Vanemuine theater, concert and opera house in Tartu , from 1992 to 1994 conductor at the Estonia National Opera in Tallinn and from 1994 to 1999 director of the Tallinn Philharmonic. From 1994 to 2002 he was conductor of the Tallinn Philharmonic. In 1996 and 1997 he conducted the orchestra at the Eurovision Song Contest during the performance of the Estonian contribution.

In addition to his classical appearances, Leinatamm has conducted numerous musicals in Estonia, including Jesus Christ Superstar , the West Side Story and Kiss me, Kate . He was also a member of various Estonian music groups such as Harmoonikud, Elektra and ROSTA aknad. He appeared regularly on the comedy show Kreisiraadio . With the band of the same name, he represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade .

Politician

From 1996 to 2003 Tarmo Leinatamm was a member of the Tallinn City Council and from 2003 to 2007 a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). From 1995 to 2002 and again since 2005 he was a member of the liberal reform party . From 2002 to 2005 he was a member of the conservative party Res Publica .

Leinatamm was married to the singer Siiri Leinatamm (* 1958), née Kokla, and had two daughters. He died on October 13, 2014 at the age of 57 from complications from cancer.
