Finderlohn is a television film from the television crime series Tatort by ARD and ORF . The film was produced by SWF and first aired on April 24, 1977. It is the 74th episode in the crime scene series, the fifth (and last) case for Commissioner Gerber ( Heinz Schimmelpfennig ), who is supported here by his assistant Ihle ( Peter Bongartz ).

The Parisian Sonja Goday is killed in a car accident on a Rheinuferstraße near Baden-Baden . A wrecked barge is anchored nearby in the Rhine and Magda, the captain's daughter, and her friend Anette rush to the wrecked car. You see that the woman is dead, and Magda puts her cosmetic bag in her pocket. Inspector Gerber recognizes the dead woman of the ex-banker Dr. Martin Schmetz, who was then 8 million Mark embezzled . The Schmetz couple allegedly drowned while on a yacht vacation in the Bahamas , but the bodies were never found. Police initially believe there was an assassination attempt, but then conclude that the woman lost control of the vehicle after her cigarette lighter fell . Inspector Gerber now believes that he can track down the banker Schmetz and the misappropriated money. The next day the whole story is in the newspaper, with a photo of the fleeting Schmetz.

Magda finds the dead man's notebook in the cosmetic bag and sees that she had arranged to meet “M.” at the Majestic Hotel in Strasbourg the next day . She is sure that "M." stands for Martin and persuades Anette to go to Strasbourg to find the 8 million dollar banker. Both women dream of great wealth and do not tell the police about it. Anette finds Schmetz, who pretends to be Gaston Boudin from Luxembourg , and hooks up with him. She assures him that she does not want to betray or blackmail him, but that she likes older men and fell in love with him at first sight. Schmetz accepts Anette's explanation and promises to get false papers so that both can go abroad undetected. He has Anette write a letter to Magda in which she claims to have found the man of her life and that she would not come back to the barge, but that "M." could not have been Schmetz, since he was not had appeared.

After receiving the letter, Magda becomes suspicious. She drives to Strasbourg, where the policeman Eckerle, who is supposed to be shadowing her, takes her in the car, and sees Schmetz and Anette eating at the Majestic. The sudden appearance of Magda is very inconvenient for Anette and she promises Magda to explain everything later. In the afternoon Schmetz goes out to pick up the wrong papers. Magda comes into the hotel room while Anette takes a bath. Magda complains that Anette wants all the money for herself. Anette, on the other hand, claims that she's not interested in money and that she is really in love. After all, she couldn't help the men running after her and being disgusted with Magda. Magda goes crazy and drowns Anette in the bathtub. Shortly afterwards Schmetz comes back.

Eckerle has meanwhile informed Gerber that Schmetz is at the Majestic in Strasbourg, and Gerber is coming to the hotel with the French police. Magda accuses Schmetz of killing Anette. Schmetz is arrested, but then Gerber realizes that Magda's sleeves are wet and Schmetz's are dry. So for Magda, too, the dream of big money is over.
