Werner O. Feißt

Werner Otto Feißt (born July 8, 1929 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † April 28, 2006 in Basel ) was a German television presenter, television journalist, television producer and book author. He was considered a pioneer of German educational television and was a co-founder of the advice and cookery program What my grandmother knew .

Life

Feißt was the son of a master printer and a mountain farmer's daughter.

Education and professional career

After graduating from high school, he began studying at the Pedagogical Academy in Lörrach , which he completed with the 1st and 2nd service exams for teachers. At first he worked as a primary school teacher in Freiburg, Sankt Georgen , Schelingen and Oberbergen am Kaiserstuhl . Later he studied philosophy (among others with Eugen Fink ) as well as education , art history and folklore at the University of Freiburg .

Feißt belonged to an Alemannic cabaret , was the head of the Freiburg Deaf Stage for ten years and was the editor and editor of the information sheet “ d'r Suflörkaschte ”.

Television career

His career with Südwestfunk (SWF) in Baden-Baden , which was absorbed by Südwestrundfunk in 1998 , began in 1959 with a traineeship and a freelance work. Since 1961 he was employed there as a television editor. From 1968 Feißt, who had meanwhile been promoted to deputy head of the culture department of the SWF television after several successful productions, dealt with the establishment of an educational television. The series of programs Telekolleg , Schulfernsehen , Funkkolleg and numerous course programs were created. From 1969 he was the main department head in the training and family program of Südwestfunk. He also appeared on several occasions as an actor in SWF television films.

In 1982, Werner O. Feißt developed the cooking and household advice program What Grandmother Knew , which was broadcast weekly on SWR television (formerly: Südwest 3 and Südwest Fernsehen) and which he and the after his retirement in 1995 until his death Swiss Kathrin Rüegg moderated. This show is considered to be the longest running cooking show on German television.

As a television film writer, Feißt mainly dealt with the topics of orthodoxy , art history, contemporary history and regional studies , especially with regard to Greece . In addition to some television series, he also wrote various books. He has received numerous awards for his productions and works.
